We are pleased to announce that Dr. Emma Freeman, our Battery Innovations Scientist, will be leading an engaging workshop titled “Na-ion Batteries for a Sustainable Future” as part of Batri’s Nexus Outreach Programme at UWC Atlantic College.
This workshop, which will be held during the student-led STEAM Conference, aligns perfectly with our commitment to education and community engagement in the rapidly evolving field of sustainable energy storage.
The STEAM Conference, a dynamic platform for young minds to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, offers students a unique chance to delve into cutting-edge areas of research and innovation. Dr. Freeman’s workshop will introduce participants to the fundamentals of battery technology, with a particular focus on sodium-ion (Na-ion) batteries. These emerging energy storage solutions hold significant promise due to their reliance on more abundant, locally sourced materials, ultimately reducing the environmental and supply chain challenges associated with traditional battery chemistries.
In this session, students will not only learn how Na-ion batteries work but will also gain insights into why these systems are poised to play a major role in shaping a more sustainable future. Through guided discussions, the workshop will highlight how Na-ion technologies have the potential to support a cleaner energy grid, strengthen energy resilience, and reduce overall carbon footprints.
Beyond theory, Dr. Freeman will lead a hands-on component featuring basic battery cell assembly. This interactive activity provides a tangible, real-world perspective, ensuring that students not only understand the concepts but also experience the practical aspects of battery innovation.
We believe that inspiring the next generation of thinkers, scientists, and engineers is key to advancing sustainable technologies. By fostering curiosity and hands-on learning, we hope to empower these students to take an active role in shaping a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
