Shaping the Future of the Battery Industry

Batri recognises that the battery industry and the broader renewables sector are poised to drive significant job creation in the coming years.

With Wales holding substantial potential in terms of existing skills and talent, Batri is committed to giving the region a strong voice and ensuring it remains competitive on the global stage. By embracing collaboration and forward-thinking strategies, the company aims to maximise opportunities for economic growth, innovation, and sustainable development.

In line with these goals, Batri welcomes the work of the Workforce Foresighting Hub, which recently launched another Foresighting Cycle led by the WMG at the University of Warwick, part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult. This initiative focuses on “The manufacturing of lithium ion cells for transport applications in large-scale gigafactories,” highlighting the need for a highly skilled workforce to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving manufacturing landscape. Crucially, the skill sets and roles being shaped through this initiative will also underpin the development of sodium-ion cells—Batri’s primary area of focus—ensuring both lithium-ion and sodium-ion technologies can benefit from the same pool of well-trained talent.

By participating in these Foresighting Cycles, companies, researchers, and policymakers can collaboratively shape the skills agenda, ensuring that training pathways and education programmes remain relevant and robust. Batri firmly believes that these collective efforts will have a transformative impact on job creation, particularly as the renewable energy and battery sectors continue to gain momentum.

The Workforce Foresighting Hub is still encouraging individuals and organisations to get involved. Interested parties can reach out via their website for more information. Batri looks forward to continuing its contributions to this vital conversation, advocating for Wales’s role in pushing the boundaries of next-generation energy technologies.
